COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A'ja Wilson just wants to fit in and do what South Carolina women's basketball coach Dawn Staley wants, despite the 6-foot-5 forward's pedigree as the No. 1 prospect in the country.
Wilson ended an intense recruiting period in April, picking Staley's Gamecocks over national champion Connecticut, Tennessee and North Carolina.
Now, Wilson has begun classes, individual workouts and weight training this month with the defending Southeastern Conference champions. She's not looking to be the center of attention, but knows it's impossible to escape at a campus already bubbling about bigger championships ahead.
Wilson said Wednesday she's heard students whisper when she's near, "There's number one." People stop her for pictures or to talk hoops.
For Wilson, it's all about putting in the work on the floor for the exacting Staley.
