Boyd named national player of the week

CLEMSON, SC (WACH) - The high praise for Clemson's Tajh Boyd continues to pour in after the Tigers' season-opening win over then No. 5 Georgia.

The quarterback has been named the Athlon Sports National Player of the Week after passing for 270 yards and three touchdowns and rushing for two more in the 38-35 win.

The victory helped Clemson surge to No. 4 in this week's Associated Press Top 25 poll, the program's highest spot in the poll in a quarter century.

"The reigning ACC player of the year shattered the Clemson and ACC record books last season, throwing for 36 touchdowns, and accounting for 46 total touchdowns.

Boyd has passed for 8, 323 yards and 76 touchdowns in his career and is considered a strong contender for the Heisman trophy after his week one performance.
