Bright, Pankake homer in Gamecocks 9-5 win over Rider

The No. 6 Gamecocks defeated Rider 9-5 on Saturday to win the series.

COLUMBIA (WACH)- Connor Bright and Joey Pankake each homered and the sixth-ranked Gamecocks defeated Rider 9-5 on Saturday to take the series. USC improves to 12-2 overall on the season.

Rider scored the first run of the game in the second, but the Gamecocks came right back in the bottom half with three of their own. Freshman Max Schrock walked to leadoff the inning and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Connor Bright singled to left to score Schrock tying the score at 1-1. Curt Britt then singled to left followed by an RBI single from Dante Rosenberg to score Bright giving the Gamecocks a lead they would not look back from. Shon Carson made it 3-1 when he grounded out to third scoring Britt.

Bright made it a 4-1 game in the third with his first career homer. Then Pankake continued his hot streak at the plate, homering for the third time in four games in the sixth.

The Gamecocks wrap up their series with Rider on Sunday at Carolina Stadium. First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m.
