Clemson downs Florida State in series opener

TALLHASSEE, FL (WACH) - Sophomore righthander Daniel Gossett pitched six scoreless innings to lead No. 17 Clemson to an 8-2 win over eighth-ranked Florida State Thursday night at Dick Howser Stadium.

The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the series and won their ninth game in a row. They improved to 39-15 overall and 18-10 in the ACC. The Seminoles dropped to 42-11 overall and 18-10 in ACC play.

Gossett upped his record to 9-3 and allowed just three hits, no runs, and struck out three batters.

Clemson and Florida State will play game-two of the three-game series on Friday at 8:00pm. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU.
