Clemson football improves classroom performance

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) -- Clemson's football team improved its cumulative grade-point-average to 2.60 in the spring semester.
The school released grades for its athletic teams Monday. Tennis finished with the highest team GPA at 3.31 this spring. The football team's performance was an increase from the fall, when it had a cumulative 2.37 GPA.
Men's basketball also took a step forward this spring, raising its GPA to 2.72 after finishing with a 2.61 mark last fall.
Among women's teams, diving had the highest cumulative average at 3.58 while women's basketball was last with 2.47 in the spring.
The school said there were eight teams with a GPA of 3.0 or better, matching the athletic department's best showing ever. Clemson also said its overall student-athlete average of 2.99 also tied the department's best-ever mark.
