Clowney, Quarles named first-team SEC

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - Five South Carolina Gamecocks have been named to the 2013 Associated Press All-SEC football team.

Defensive end Jadeveon Clowney and defensive tackle Kelcy Quarles both earned first-team honors, while sophomore runningback Mike Davis, junior spur Sharrod Golightly and junior cornerback Victor Hampton were voted to the second team.

South Carolina's all-time winningest quarterback, Connor Shaw, did not appear on the first or second-teams, and did not receive an honorable mention either. Shaw has passed for 2,135 yards, 21 touchdowns and just one interception this season. The senior is 17-0 at Williams-Brice Stadium all-time in his career and 26-5 overall.

Quarles was the team leader in tackles for loss, with 13.5, and sacks, with 9.5. Clowney earned All-SEC accolades for a third straight season and finished the regular season with 10.5 tackles for loss, 35 tackles, a forced fumble, three sacks and eight quarterback hurries.

Mike Davis rushed for 1,134 yards and 11 touchdown, averaging 5.8 yards per carry. Davisâ?? rushing total is currently the fourth highest single-season total in South Carolina history. Davis has logged seven 100-yard games this year.

Hampton recorded three interceptions, broke up nine passes, and collected 45 tackles on the year.

Sharrod Golightly started all 12 games this season, and collected 44 tackles, four pass breakups, a pair of fumble recoveries and 1.5 sacks.
