Coaches name Clowney, Sanders to all-SEC team

The coaches of the SEC have named Jadeveon Clowney and Ace Sanders two of the best players in the SEC.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - The coaches in the Southeastern Conference have named two Gamecocks some of the best in the SEC.

Sophomore defensive end Jadeveon Clowney and junior return specialist Ace Sanders were named to the first-team All-SEC squad. The league's coaches voted on the selections.

Clowney set program marks this season, racking up 13 sacks and 21.5 tackles for loss, both single-season school records. He is a finalist for the Lombardi, Bednarik and Hendricks awards, and was a unanimous first-team All-SEC selection by the Associated Press.

Clowney was also a finalist for the Nagurski award, which was won by Heisman finalist and Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o on Monday night.

Ace Sanders set the South Carolina single-season record for punt return yards with 363. The junior was also the top punt returner in the SEC, averaging 14.5 yards per return, with seven returns of 27 yards or more.

Sanders was a second-team selection by the Associated Press.

Senior center T.J. Johnson and senior safety D.J. Swearinger were named to the second team all-SEC by the league's coaches.

The conference is set to announce the SEC individual awards on Wednesday.
