Darius Rucker to perform free concert at Colonial Life Arena
Columbia, S.C. (WACH)-- Country music star and Grammy Award-winner Darius Rucker will return to the Palmetto state for a free concert this spring.
The Gamecock Alumnus will perform live at the Colonial Life Arena on Wednesday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m.
Joining Rucker is concert opener Patrick Davis who hopped on board with the free concert ideas after seeing Rucker tweet that said he would perform a free concert if the Gamecocks won six football games during the 2016-17 season.
The university president Harris Pastides hoped on board and the Gamecock football team closed the dead with a win over Western California on Nov. 19.
Tickets will first be made available to current USC Columbia students. Students can request a free concert ticket online from March 13-20 using the Student Account Manager.
Any unclaimed seats will be made available to the general public in advance of the concert.
Rucker was the first African American to win the Country Music Association’s New Artist of the Year award and, in 2016. He holds an honorary Doctor of Music fro the University of South Carolina.
