Erwin pitches Clemson past James Madison

CLEMSON, S.C. (WACH/CLEMSON SID)- Clemson's Zack Erwin pitched a six-hit shutout to lead the Tigers to an 8-0 win over James Madison at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Friday night.

Clemson (26-19) took a 1-0 lead in the two-game series against the Dukes (15-27).

Erwin (4-2) struck out four batters, and did not issue a walk in a career-long nine innings pitched. Dukes starter Chris Huffman (4-6) suffered the loss in a short outing due to injury.

Garrett Boulwareâ??s two-out single in the first inning scored Steven Duggar and Clemson added two runs in the third inning on Tyler Kriegerâ??s run-scoring single and Steve Wilkersonâ??s sacrifice fly. Clemson scored its fourth run on Kriegerâ??s RBI groundout in the fifth inning and the Tigers added four runs in the eighth inning, highlighted by Chris Okeyâ??s two-run double.

James Madison faces UNLV on Saturday at noon at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The two-game series between Clemson and James Madison concludes Saturday at 4 p.m.
