Greenville, S.C. (WACH)- The Gamecocks scored five runs in the third inning and Jack Wynkoop pitched six-plus innings giving up just two runs as No. 3 South Carolina took the series over No. 11 Clemson with a 10-2 win Saturday at Fluor Field.
USC (9-0) opened things up in the top of the third inning when Joey Pankake's single to right scored Elliott Caldwell. From there, the Gamecocks added four more runs that would prove to be the difference.
Wynkoop (3-0) wasn't his best, but it was enough. He allowed nine hits, walked just one and struck out three. Matthew Crownover (2-1) suffered his first loss of the year only lasting 2.2 innings and gave up five runs on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
USC and Clemson finish the three game series Sunday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. First pitch is at 4:00 p.m.
