COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - After a six year absence from the NCAA Tournament, the South Carolina softball team is making its second straight trip this week.
It is South Carolina's 17th trip the NCAA Tournament.
The Gamecocks are set to leave for the Tallahassee regional on Wednesday. The hosts, Florida State, won the ACC with a 50-6 record. South Carolina is set to play the University of South Florida (41-15) on Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
Under the direction of fourth-year head coach Beverly Smith, the Gamecocks enter the tournament with a 35-20 record, closing the regular season tied for eighth in the Southeastern Conference. The team has a program-record 50 home runs and 203 walks.
Atlantic 10 champions Fordham (36-18) fill out the four-team regional.
South Carolina has advanced to the NCAA Women's College World Series three times in program history.
