COLUMBIA (WACH)- Freshman Gene Cone had a bases-clearing double to blow the game open in the fifth inning as No. 17 South Carolina defeated Missouri 8-2 Friday at Carolina Stadium. The Gamecocks improve to 37-13 overall and 14-11 in the SEC.
Jordan Montgomery (7-4) earned the win tossing 8.1 innings allowing just five hits, two runs and struck out eight.
Joey Pankake and Max Schrock both went 3-for-4 to lead the Gamecocks.
USC and Missouri will meet in game two at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday.
