COLUMBIA (WACH)- Freshman Gene Cone broke a 3-3 tie with a two-out, two RBI single in the sixth inning and No. 11 South Carolina cruised to a series-clinching win 9-3 over No. 8 Alabama on Sunday at Carolina Stadium. The Gamecocks improve to 34-11 and 12-9 in the SEC.
USC jumped out to a 3-0 lead after four innings, but the Crimson Tide responded with three of their own in the fifth.
Cody Mincey (4-0) earned the win working 1.2 scoreless innings.
The Gamecocks return to action Friday when they travel to Georgia for a three-game series. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
