COLUMBIA (WACH)- Jordan Montgomery pitched five scoreless innings and the Gamecocks put together a six-run third inning en route to a 17-4 win over Bucknell in game one of a doubleheader Saturday.
The Gamecocks (1-0) broke things open in the bottom of the first when Kyle Martin doubled to right scoring Marcus Mooney. Grayson Greiner added an RBI ground out to plate Max Schrock.
Things got out of hand in the third as USC pushed across six runs, capped off by a two-run homer from DC Arendas. Arendas led South Carolina with three hits and three RBI. Connor Bright also added three RBI.
USC scored six more runs in the sixth inning before adding the final three in the seventh.
Game two between the Gamecocks and Bison will begin at 4:10 p.m.
