Gamecocks rise to No. 1 in latest poll

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - The South Carolina baseball team is back at the head of the class.

The undefeated Gamecocks (15-0) are the No. 1 team in the country in this week's Baseball America top-25 poll, rising two spots from last week.

The newly-minted top team in the country is coming off a three-game sweep of Brown. The Bears did not score a run in the series, giving the Gamecocks eight shutouts on the year.

South Carolina started the season ranked seventh and has steadily risen as they continue to beat every team in front of them. This is the first time they have been the top-ranked team in the Baseball America poll since the program's 2011 national title win.

The team is off to its best start since 2004 when that year's team started the season 18-0.

South Carolina hosts Furman Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Carolina Stadium.
