COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - The South Carolina football team continues to make history under coach Steve Spurrier and they haven't even played a single snap of the 2013 season.
The team's impressive preseason, which includes unprecedented attention being shown to Heisman hopeful Jadeveon Clowney, continued with the release of the first Associated Press Top 25 poll of the year. The Gamecocks scored the program's highest preseason ranking in school history by checking in at No. 6, one slot better than their rank in the USA Today/Coaches poll released earlier this month.
South Carolina's schedule has three teams in the initial AP Top 25 poll, including No. 5 Georgia, No. 10 Florida and No. 8 Clemson.
The Tigers' preseason ranking is that program's best in a quarter century.
The Gamecocks finished at No. 8 in last season's final AP Top 25 poll, a program best.
South Carolina opens the season Aug. 29 against North Carolina at Williams-Brice Stadium.
