Gamecocks take down Florida 28-20
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) —
The South Carolina Gamecocks pulled off their seventh win of the season on Saturday, beating the University of Florida 28-20.
Quarterback Jake Bentley threw for 249 yards and ran in two touchdowns, offsetting three earlier interceptions. Running Back Mon Denson scored for the first time of his USC career, scoring two touchdowns as well.
Florida struggled through the first quarter, kicking two field goals for a total of 6 points. The Gators scored their first touchdown of the day with 1:18 left in the 2nd quarter. After halftime, UF struggled to keep up with the Gamecocks.
A late touchdown in the fourth quarter closed the gap between Florida and USC, the Gators only trailing by 8 points. An interception by USC defensive back Jaymest Williams with a little over a minute left in the game sealed up the win for South Carolina.
Overall, USC completed 469 yards, a season-high total. Denson rushed 61 yards, while fellow running back A.J. Turner ran a career-high of 136 yards.
The Gamecocks are now 7-3, 5-3 in the SEC. They take on Wofford next weekend.
