COLUMBIA (WACH)- Bryan Aanderud went 4-for-4 with two RBI and Trey Lambert pitched seven-plus strong innings as Liberty defeated Clemson 3-1 to eliminate the Tigers from the Columbia regional on Sunday. The Tigers finish the season at 40-22 overall.
Clemson got on the board first in the fourth when Garrett Boulware delivered an RBI single to plate Steven Duggar, but that would be the only run they would push across.
Matthew Crownover (7-3) pitched just 4.0 innings and gave up two runs on five hits.
"Very tough time of year when you lose your last game, but I'm very proud of my team," Clemson head coach Jack Leggett said afterwards.
Once again, the Tigers failed to come up with the big hit when it needed it, stranding nine base runners.
Still, Leggett is excited about the future.
"We played a tough schedule, and it's been a grind," Leggett said. "We'll rebound and be ready to play next year. We'll be back."
The Tigers miss out on a Super Regional for the third straight year, a first under Leggett.
