A state license tag honoring the University of South Carolina baseball team's back-to-back national championships in 2010 and 2011 will be available for purchase Tuesday.

COLUMBIA (WACH) - A state license tag honoring the University of South Carolina baseball team's back-to-back national championships in 2010 and 2011 will be available for purchase Tuesday.

The tag, offered to fans by My Carolina Alumni Association and the University of South Carolina Athletics Department, costs $70 in addition to regular registration fees and is payable every two years.

Proceeds from the purchase of the license tags will benefit student scholarships at the university.

The tags will be available for purchase from the S.C. Department of Motor Vehicles beginning Tuesday, Feb. 19.

??This is a great way for alumni and fans to not only show their support for the Gamecocks, but also to help build support for the university and its students in a meaningful way,?? My Carolina Executive Director Jack Claypoole said. ??On behalf of My Carolina and its nearly 270,000 living alumni, we feel this is a super way to honor the success of our Gamecock baseball program while also giving back to the university. By supporting student scholarships, purchase of this tag helps support young people who want to come to Carolina for a world-class education while watching national championship athletics"

University officials say Legislation authored by Rep. Michael A. Pitts of Laurens, and Rep. Garry R. Smith of Greenville, both of whom are alumni of the university, was approved by the state legislature last year.

??We appreciate the efforts of Representative Smith and Representative Pitts in supporting the university through this legislation, and thankful for the work of Ray Tanner, Chad Holbrook and their staff and players for giving Gamecock nation a continued sense of pride in the university with their team??s accomplishments," said Claypoole.
