COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- One of the main goals South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier wants to achieve is out the hands of the No. 10 Gamecocks.
Spurrier said Tuesday he would rather win the Southeastern Conference title than beat No. 6 Clemson on Saturday. But whether the Gamecocks win the SEC East to get a shot at the title will be decided when No. 5 Missouri plays No. 19 Texas A&M. A Missouri win sends the Tigers to the title game, a loss and South Carolina wins the division.
So Spurrier says his team will concentrate on beating their biggest rival for an unprecedented fifth straight time.
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney says he doesn't think South Carolina will be easily distracted because the Gamecocks also have a 17-game home winning streak to protect.
