      No. 2 South Carolina squeaks past Arkansas in game one of doubleheader

      Fayetteville, AR (WACH)- Marcus Mooney hit an RBI single in the eighth and Jordan Montgomery pitched seven-plus strong innings to lift No. 2 South Carolina over Arkansas in game one of their doubleheader on Friday. The Gamecocks improve to 26-3 overall and 7-3 in the SEC.

      USC trailed 1-0 heading into the eighth, but tied things up when Tanner English delivered an RBI double down the left field line to score DC Arendas. Mooney then followed with the RBI single to score English with two outs.

      Montgomery (4-2) allowed just one run on four hits and tied a season-high in strikeouts with nine. Joel Seddon earned his eighth save of the year.

      English and Mooney led the Gamecocks with two hits apiece.
