Ohio State reportedly interested in Staley

COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - After another stellar season and South Carolina's second straight trip to the NCAA tournament, it looks like the Gamecocks will have to fight to keep women's basketball coach Dawn Staley.

Reports out Friday indicate Ohio State has received permission to talk to Staley about that school's head coaching vacancy. The Buckeyes fired Jim Foster earlier this month after 11 seasons at the helm of Ohio State's program.

Staley is said be one of three candidates to take over for Foster.

In five seasons at the University of South Carolina, Staley has compiled a record of 92-66, including three NCAA tournament wins and a trip to the 2012 Sweet 16.

Staley's success has produced results on the recruiting trail. She has a solid recruiting class slated for next season, including Midlands product Alaina Coates. The six-foot-four center out of Dutch Fork High School was one of the most coveted recruits in the nation.

Staley is reportedly set to interview at Ohio State early next week.
