COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - Joey Pankake led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a walk-off home run to power No. 8 South Carolina to a 6-5 win over The Citadel on Tuesday night at Carolina Stadium.
The win improves the Gamecocks to 27-7 and The Citadel drops to 17-17 on the season.
Pankake's homer was his sixth of the season. After The Citadel rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game, Pankake responded in the home half of the ninth by launching a 1-0 pitch to left-center off Bulldog pitcher David Rivera.
USC righthander Curt Britt earned the win and is now 2-0 on the year after one-third of an inning of work. Rivera suffered the loss and is 4-1 on the year.
Dante Rosenberg also blasted his first career home run for South Carolina to get the home team on the board in the fifth inning.
South Carolina finished with 13 hits while The Citadel tallied 11 for the game.
South Carolina heads back on the road for a three-game SEC series at Florida this weekend. First pitch for the series opener is set for Thursday at 7:30pm.
