SEC Basketball Media Day in the books for the Gamecocks

Frank Martin and Dawn Staley are eager to get the 2012-2013 season underway after speaking at SEC Media Days Thursday.

HOOVER, AL (WACH)- SEC Basketball Media Day is in the books, and from the sounds of it, the USC men's and women's basketball teams are ready to begin their 2012-2013 season.

Frank Martin has the bigger task between he and Dawn Staley, inheriting the men's basketball program who won just 10 games a season ago, and only two in the SEC. Martin believes to get the program where it needs to be, groundwork has to be put in place.

"Can we eventually become a team that can compete for a championship? Well we won't if we don't do our job from day one," Martin said. The Gamecock men's team tips off their regular season November 11 against UW-Milwaukee.

Meanwhile, Dawn Staley looks to build off last season where she took the Lady Gamecocks to the Sweet 16.

"I think our expectations are there," Staley said. "Our newcomers have watched our games and how we play and know what to expect." The challenge to get back to the NCAA tournament will be present in Staley's fifth season. The Gamecocks will look for leadership out of seniors Ieasia Walker and Ashley Bruner, who played big roles in the team's 25 win season in 2011.
