SEC names South Carolina's Hampton player of week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WACH) -- South Carolina defensive back Victor Hampton is the Southeastern Conference defensive player of the week.

The SEC announced the winners on Monday.

Hampton had eight tackles, including six solo stops, in South Carolina's 34-16 win over Mississippi State. He also broke up three passes and forced and recovered a fumble.

The Gamecock defense forced five turnover overall in the victory.

Hampton is the sixth South Carolina player to earn SEC honors this season. He has 29 tackles and two interceptions on the season.

The No. 13 Gamecocks have a bye week this week before returning to action Saturday, November 16 when they host Florida in South Carolina's final regular season SEC game of the year.
