South Carolina clinches series against Texas A&M

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - South Carolina batted around in the first inning to score five runs times and senior left-hander Nolan Belcher struck out nine batters to beat No. 13 Texas A&M 6-4 on Friday night at Carolina Stadium.

The No. 14 Gamecocks clinched the weekend series with the win and is now 21-6 and 4-4 in the SEC with the Aggies dropping to 18-10 and 5-3 in league play.

Belcher pitched 8.1 innings, scattered seven hits and didn't surrender a walk on his way to improve his record to 5-2 on the year. Senior left-hander Tyler Webb notched the final two outs with a pair of strikeouts to pick up his 10th save of the year. Texas A&M starter Kyle Martin suffered the loss and is 2-4 on the season. South Carolina knocked him out of the game after just one third of an inning.

Texas A&M scored twice in the seventh inning to cut the deficit to three runs and kept on coming in the ninth inning by putting another run to pull within two runs. Tyler Webb was able to record the final out of the game with a strikeout to seal the South Carolina win.

The series wraps up Saturday afternoon. First pitch is set for 1:30pm at Carolina Stadium.
