CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WACH/AP) -- South Carolina will open the 2015 season against North Carolina at Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium.
The Charlotte Sports Foundation announced Thursday that the game will be on Sept. 5, 2015.
The Tar Heels will also face the Gamecocks in Columbia for this fall's season opener on Aug. 29. That game will be the first meeting between the two programs since 2007, when South Carolina beat North Carolina 21-15 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
The South Carolina-North Carolina rivalry has largely been dormant since the schools locked horns on a regular basic when both were members of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Since leaving the ACC in 1971, the Gamecocks have only played the Tar Heels 11 times. South Carolina has a 6-5 since then. However, North Carolina has a 34-17-4 edge in the all-time series.
