Staley has USC primed for first SEC regular season title

For the first time ever, the South Carolina Women's Basketball program will try and win the SEC regular season outright when they host Georgia Thursday night at Colonial Life Arena.

COLUMBIA (WACH)- For the first time ever, the South Carolina Women's Basketball program will try and win the SEC regular season outright when they host Georgia Thursday night at Colonial Life Arena.

"A win solidifies what our vision is as a coaching staff when we came and took over the program here," head coach Dawn Staley said.

Regular season championship is not the only "first" on USC's list, though. If the Gamecocks (26-2, 13-1 SEC) can take down the Lady Bulldogs Thursday, it would mark the program's first undefeated season at home in 35 years.

"Our fans will us to win," Staley said. "This city is always looking for a winner and they will follow you if you're winning."

But despite the team's success thus far, the players are remaining focused on each game.

"We know this league is tough and you can be beaten any day," leading scorer Tiffany Mitchell said.

Thursday night's matchup between USC and Georgia is set for 7 p.m.
