ATLANTA, GA (WACH)- South Carolina women's basketball coach Dawn Staley was announced as a member of the 2013 class in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Monday in Atlanta.
"I got the call last Wednesday and I'm still in shock and awe, it's a tremendous honor," Staley said.
The three-time Olympic gold medalist has compiled a 92-66 record in five seasons at the head of the Gamecocks. Staley has led USC to two straight NCAA Tournaments and a Sweet 16 appearance in 2012.
"I had no idea this would happen," Staley said. "Basketball is a game that keeps on giving, and I truly feel indebted to this game."
Staley was also inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012. She will be enshrined into the Naismith Hall of Fame in September and will remember her roots when presented.
"I'll be thinking of North Philly when I am enshrined in September," Staley said. "I left a part of my knees on those courts growing up."
Staley will be a part of a 12 member class that is enshrined on September 8, 2013 in Springfield, Mass.
