Stanek and No. 17 Razorbacks shut down USC

Chad Holbrook and the Gamecocks dropped the series to Arkansas with a 4-2 loss Saturday at Carolina Stadium.

COLUMBIA (WACH)- Ryne Stanek pitched a three-hit complete game as No. 17 Arkansas defeated the fifth-ranked Gamecocks 4-2 and clinched the series. The Gamecocks fell to 18-5 overall and 2-3 in the SEC.

Nolan Belcher was just as effective throwing 7.1 innings, but a couple of errors in the field allowed the Razorbacks to give the lefty his second loss of the season.

The Gamecocks broke through first in the fifth when Chase Vergason scored Greyson Greiner on a sacrifice fly. Arkansas answered in the top of the sixth when Tyler Spoon drove an RBI single past Vergason. Arkansas tacked on two more in the seventh.

USC will try and salvage the series on Sunday. First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m.
