HEBRON, KY (WACH) - One of the top-rated quarterbacks in the class of 2014 has spurned South Carolina to play for his home-state Kentucky Wildcats.
Drew Barker, a consensus four-star quarterback, and rated the sixth-best quarterback in the 2014 class, verbally committed to the Wildcats Friday afternoon at Conner High School in Kentucky.
The six-foot-four, 210 pound Barker had narrowed his choices to South Carolina, Kentucky and Tennessee. The Gamecocks were considered the frontrunner over Kentucky, but it seems new head coach Mark Stoops outmaneuvered them.
Miami, Ole Miss, North Carolina, Vanderbilt and Notre Dame were also interested in one of the top pro-style quarterbacks in the nation.
