COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - Deke Adams has been named defensive line coach at the University of South Carolina.
Coach Steve Spurrier made the announcement Tuesday just days after long-time defensive line coach Brad Lawing left for a position at the University of Florida.
"Several of our coaches are very familiar with Deke, having coached with him previously," said Spurrier. "He has an excellent track record both as a player and as an assistant coach. He has a lot of experience coaching the defensive line, and in recruiting the state of North Carolina and other parts of the South.
Adams spent the 2012 season coaching the defensive line at North Carolina after three seasons in the same role at Southern Miss. Adams was also a three-year letter winner for the Golden Eagles from 1991-94.
"I'm excited about getting to Columbia and the opportunity to coach with coach Spurrier and coach Ward," said Adams. "I've known about South Carolina for a long time and it's a great opportunity for me and my family."
Adams started his coaching career in 1997 as the defensive line coach at Jacksonville State.
