USC-Kentucky series opener postponed due to weather threat

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - Friday night's series opener between South Carolina and Kentucky at Carolina Stadium has been postponed due to the threat of severe weather.

The series will now start on Saturday at 1 pm with a doubleheader. Both games will be nine innings.

The WACH Fox weather team says severe storms are likely with the major threats being wind, hail and a chance for isolated tornado warnings.

A tornado watch is in effect for the northern Midlands until 9 pm and a severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 8 pm in the southern areas of the Midlands.

With that threat and the safety of fans and players in mind, university official made the decision to play the doubleheader on Saturday.

Fans with tickets for Friday nights game will be honored for the first game of the doubleheader. The stadium will then be cleared at the end of the first game. Fans with tickets for Saturdays game will be honored for the second game of the doubleheader, which will start approximately 45 minutes at the conclusion of the first game.
