COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - The South Carolina women's basketball team is rising in the polls thanks to an upset victory.
Coach Dawn Staley's Gamecocks moved up three spots to No. 15 in the newest Associated Press Top 25 poll. South Carolina picked up a pair of wins last week, including a 55-50 win over then-No. 5 Kentucky at the Colonial Life Arena.
It was the team's first win over a ranked team this year, and the program's first win over a top-five program since January 1998.
Senior Ieasia Walker was a key part of the win over Kentucky and Sunday's 43-40 win at Arkansas. The point guard has been named SEC Player of the Week after finishing the week with 23 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, two blocks and three steals in those wins.
The Gamecocks are 18-3 overall and 7-2 in the SEC, the best conference start in more than a decade.
South Carolina is 18-3 overall and 7-2 in the SEC. The team is off until February 3 when it hosts Auburn.
