USC's Holbrook dealing with team's ups and downs

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH/AP) -- South Carolina baseball coach Chad Holbrook hasn't been surprised by anything that's happened during his debut season, not even the second-guessing from fans expecting more after two national championships and a runner-up finish last year.

Holbrook has the Gamecocks (38-14, 16-10 SEC) poised to win 40 games and reach the NCAA tournament for the 14th straight year. They are also in position to open NCAA play at home for a fourth straight year.

Still, Holbrook and the Gamecocks heard critics after they were swept at Florida last month and against Vanderbilt at home two weeks ago. Holbrook was not happy with the defeats, but says a goal is to make sure his players bounce back after disappointing losses.

South Carolina wraps up the Southeastern Conference regular season schedule at Mississippi State starting Thursday night.
