USC's Montgomery to get Friday start

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - As expected, the ace of the South Carolina staff is getting the call for the first game of this weekend's NCAA Regional. Jordan Montgomery is set to start against Campbell on Friday.

The junior has a 19-7 career record and is 7-5 this season with 3.52 ERA.

However, the lefthander from Sumter brings it to another level come the postseason. In his last three NCAA Tournament starts against Liberty, North Carolina and Arkansas, Montgomery has given up just 10 hits and has struck out 20 batters in 24 innings of work. All of those games have been wins.

Montgomery leads the pitching staff with 86 strikeouts this season in 92 innings pitched.

South Carolina hosts No. 4 seed Campbell Friday at 7 p.m. at Carolina Stadium.
