USC's Shaw, Clemson's Boyd named to Manning Award watch list

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - South Carolina's Connor Shaw and Clemson's Tajh Boyd have both been named to the Manning Award watch list.

The award is named in honor of the accomplishments of the Manning quarterbacks, Archie, Peyton and Eli. It is the only quarterback award that includes candidate's bowl performances in the balloting.

Shaw, the current South Carolina leader in career pass-completion percentage, is ninth in career pass completions, with 300, and seventh in career passing touchdowns with 32.

He enters 2013 with a 17-3 record as a starter and is in position to become South Carolina's all-time winningest quarterback this season. The Flowery Branch native is one of two Gamecocks in history with 3,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards along with Jeff Grantz.

Shaw is one of five SEC quarterbacks on the 30-man list.

Tajh Boyd is coming off a record-shattering 2012 season in which he broke his own ACC single-season marks for touchdown passes, with 36, and touchdown responsibility, with 46. The quarterback from Virginia enters the 2013 season with 8,053 career passing yards and 73 touchdown passes.

Boyd is the reigning ACC player of the year and is a preaseason prediction to win the award again this season. He was a finalist for the award last year. This preseason he is joined on the watch list by ACC quarterbacks Bryn Renner and Stephen Morris.

The 10 finalists will be released on November 27, with the winner announced on January 8.
