WCW: Track star heals depression through community service
COLUMBIA, SC (WACH)- Every week the Good Day Columbia team celebrates the ladies of the sports world through the "Woman Crush Wednesday" segment. University of South Carolina Track star Maya Evans picks up this week's honors.
Evans grew up in Wilson, North Carolina and starting volunteering in the community in High School. Her mother encouraged her to do so because she was battling depression. Now, only a few years later, she was named the "SEC Brad Davis Community Service Leader of the Year". She earned the title out of the entire Southeastern Conference by racking up over 700 hours of community service.
The senior also took an all expense-paid service trip to Costa Rica this past summer where she tutored underprivileged youth. After she graduates USC, Evans will studied for her masters degree in School Psychology at Columbia University in New York.
