Saluda, S.C. (WACH)- The moment of desparation ended with a smile for Gamecock nation on Signing Day as Saluda defensive tackle Dexter Wideman switched his commit from Florida State to USC.
The 6-4, 270-pounder was thought to be a lock for the Seminoles, but being close to home is where the four-star recruit wanted to be.
"Everybody wants to be the hometown hero," Wideman said. "I already had a good relationship with the coaches so I knew once I get there, they'll take care of me and I'll be ready to play."
With guys like Jadeveon Clowney, Kelcy Quarles and Chaz Sutton gone, Wideman may have a shot at seeing the field early and he already has high expectations.
"I want to win an SEC Championship, a National Championship," Wideman said. "I want to be the best player I can be at South Carolina."
Wideman is one of nine in-state players to sign with the Gamecocks. For WACH-Fox's exclusive interview with Wideman, click here.
