Orangeburg holds news conference on Coronavirus

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WACH) – On Thursday, the community gathered to hear from their leaders about the Coronavirus. One man says he’s going to take heed.

“I’m gone do everything I can preventive measures, etc. I take this thing pretty serious I don’t hang out like I used to,” says Rasheed Ali, Orangeburg resident.

At the press conference, officials gave people resources on unemployment, advised them to stay home and confirmed that there are 400 cases of the Coronavirus in South Carolina.

“My main thing I wanted to know is the ages because I’m 61 and I wanted to know. I think that I’m in that number, unfortunately, but I’m in that number,” says Ali.

Officials reminded people to constantly wash their hands and if they’re not already

“Practice social distancing,” says Charles Williams, President, Regional Medical Center.

“If you’re not feeling well, do as we’re asking you to do. To let you know that we’re not doing it to hurt, we’re doing it to help. We’re doing it to serve,” says Williams.

The leaders in Orangeburg also say that they want people to relax.

“Let’s not worry, let’s not panic, let’s stay calm. Let’s listen to the great people who have been put in elective roles. Let’s listen to the medical professionals,” says Ali.

Officials in Orangeburg are urging people to contact them with any questions or concerns that they have.
