BHM Spotlight: Viola Davis

This Black History month, I’m celebrating the legacy of Viola Davis. She is known for being the first African - American to be nominated for three Academy Awards, winning one.

Davis is the only black actor to achieve the Triple Crown of Acting.

She is from St. Matthews, South Carolina.

Davis has acted in several hit movies including; "Fences", "Suicide Squad", "The Help", "Get On Up", and several others. She currently has a leading role on ABC's hit drama "How To Get Away With Murder."

Viola Davis has personally inspired me throughout my life because of her tenacious unwavering pursuit of greatness. When I was younger I wanted to be an actress and was obsessed with movies and television shows. Watching Viola Davis perform and seeing someone like me on the big screen inspired me to chase my dreams.

It is even more important as a young African- American woman to see women like Viola Davis do and say "yes I can." Because of Viola Davis, I can.

Davis has knocked down numerous doors and paved the way for more African- American women to do the same.
