January Jefferson Award Winner: Dr. Charles Jackson Sr.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH)-- Service has been the mission of Dr. Charles Jackson Sr. for more than four decades.

Jackson currently serves as the senior pastor of Brookland Baptist Church in West Columbia, the same church he has called home since he was nine-years-old.

Beyond the walls of the of Brookland Baptist is where Jackson says his real service is.

Under the Columbia Natives Leadership, Brookland Baptist has 65 ministries, from a full-service credit union to the well-known banquet and conference center.

These services to the community are only a part of Jackson's vision and his hard work has not gone unnoticed.

Throughout the years, Jackson has received several honors from the Columbia Urban League, Boy Scouts of American as well as the Order of the Palmetto, which is the highest civilian honor in the state.

So far in 2018, Jackson was named one of the top 50 most influential people in the Midlands.

Though appreciative of the support Jackson says his commitment to the community is not for the accolades.
