OnPoint on WACH Fox: Public education in South Carolina

COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - On this week's edition of OnPoint on WACH Fox we take a closer look at South Carolina's public education system.

The state has made some improvements, but some wonder if it's enough.

This school year had a teacher shortage of almost 500 teachers and it seems to be getting worse.

South Carolina's superintendent of education, Molly Spearman, wants to take over the state's worst performing school district. The state's public education system tends to rank as one of the worst, if not, the worst in the nation.

The "Corridor of Shame" is still shameful.

So what's being done to improve education? And what needs to be done?

This week on OnPoint on WACH Fox, we talk to people working in the trenches every day to give children a quality education and talk about the challenges they face.
