OnPoint on WACH Fox: The importance of caregivers in SC

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - On this week's edition of OnPoint on WACH Fox we look at the importance of caregivers in the lives of their loved ones.

November is National Family Caregivers Month.

According to the National Alliance for Caregiving and Evercare, more than 65 million people, that's 29 percent of the U.S. population, provide care for a chronically ill, disabled, or aging family member or friend during any given year. They also spend an average of 20 hours per week providing care for their loved one.

That's a lot for anyone, especially if you also work outside of just being a caregiver. That's why caregiving is so important because so many people need it.

There are also resources available in South Carolina to help people who have taken on this role, so they can be certain they are also taking proper care of themselves.

This week we talk with a Midlands woman who cares for her aging mother, and talk with local professional who helps families navigate what can be a trying and demanding situation.
