CALHOUN COUNTY, SC (WACH) - Calhoun County School District Superintendent Dr. Steve Wilson was named the 2017 SC Superintendent of the Year Wednesday by the SC Association of School Administrators.

Dr. Wilson has been working in the education field for 44 years and has been the district's superintendent since 2010.

"I am humbled and honored and blessed that I was able to receive this honor. It's always good to be recognized by your peers," said Wilson. "We've been about teaching and learning. The teachers and students have really bought in our vision for that," he added.

Prior to his appointment as Calhoun County's superintendent, Wilson was the executive director of high schools for Richland One School District.

"Dr. Wilson is well respected in his community and among his peers. He is a longtime champion of children and remains a learner at heart by always finding ways to improve education for the children of Calhoun County," said SC Assocation of School Administrators Executive Director Beth Phibbs.

For his recognition as the state's Superintendent of the Year, Dr. Wilson is a finalist for the national honor.
