COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) -- So far CrimeStoppers reports getting seven tips. While detectives said the information is helpful they need more to break the case. We told you about this story in late September we went to the neighborhood, talked with close friends and James McDowell’s father.

Richland County detectives weren't available to speak on camera Wednesday but they tell WACH FOX news they've been working around the clock to piece together what happened to McDowell and his little boy on September 30th.

James McDowell and his son Ty were gunned down inside his apartment off Beatty Downs Road.

The family thinks McDowell opened his front door with little Ty in his arms and that's when someone started shooting. Investigators found McDowell lying in the front yard. The little boy was found inside the apartment both were shot multiple times.

Ty would have turned 2-years-old just days after the shooting. McDowell’s father Kevin Fielder said he hopes someone comes forward. “That’s the only grandson I ever had and just thinking about my grandson being dead and my son at the same time, they both get killed at the same time that's just too much,” Felder said. “You can understand one person being killed but both at the same time it's just too much to handle right now.“
