Charleston Harris Teeter poop spraying confirmed by police, new charge for suspect
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Charleston Police confirmed Friday the man who caused a stink with squirts of "brown liquid" onto the produce at a West Ashley Harris Teeter was indeed spraying fecal matter onto the fruits and vegetables.
An analysis of the brown liquid tested positive for feces, according to police, leading to a new charge for Pau S. Hang, who was already in deep No. 2 over the incident.
Wang is in jail at the Al Cannon Detention Center following his arrest Sunday, Oct. 15, for trespassing and malicious property damage inside the Harris Teeter at 975 Savannah Hwy. in Charleston. He now faces an additional charge of tampering with a human drug product or food item, according to jail records.
After Pau was arrested, police say the store manager alerted them that Hang had sprayed a brown substance onto some of the produce in the store.
The produce was removed, and the section was cleaned, police say. The store's produce was restocked and reopened the following day after a DHEC inspection, representatives with the Charleston County Health Department say.
A SLED background check shows Hang prior to the Oct. 15 incident had been arrested at least seven times at the store since originally being placed on trespass notice in Nov. 2015.
Harris Teeter representatives described Hang as a "disgruntled former employee."
