Bond denied for CPD officer charged with sexually assaulting minor

    COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) – Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook has announced the arrest of a Columbia Police officer by the Lexington County Sheriff's Department accused of sexually assaulting a minor.

    Jamie Lee Rogers, Sr. is now charged with 1st degree sexual assault on a minor victim under the age of 11, according to a release from the department.

    Holbrook learned of the charge Monday afternoon from the Lexington County Sheriff's Department and Rogers, Sr. was immediately terminated Monday, Nov. 21, according to the release. Rogers, Sr. had been with the department since March 2012.

    “We must be prepared to act swiftly anytime we learn of an officer violating the public’s trust,” Chief Holbrook stated. “Although the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department has and continues to conduct a thorough investigation, it is this agency’s responsibility to hold officers accountable for criminal misconduct and any abuse of authority.”

    Rogers, Sr. was most recently assigned to North Region and patrolled North Columbia.

    Rogers' bond was denied Tuesday and his next court appearance is set for February 16, 2017.
