ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WACH) – A man has been charged after a woman suffered multiple facial fractures during an assault, according to the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Forty-year-old Ernest Stabler was charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, according to Sheriff Leroy Ravenell.
“This was just brutal, the injuries this individual suffered,” Ravenell said. “There’s no reason on earth to treat another person like this.”
Investigators met with the woman who said Stabler punched her in the face multiple times as well as slammed her head against a car.
The woman said they had picked up a friend of Stabler’s to give him a ride home. She said when the friend got out and went inside, she was attacked by Stabler.
Stabler told investigators the woman and his friend had been using drugs prior to falling onto the paved driveway at the friend’s home.
However, investigators found no pavement but a grassy area where the assault was said to have taken place.
Bond was set on Stabler at $100,000 during a hearing Friday. If convicted, Stabler faces up to 20 years in prison.
