Driver ejected from vehicle, killed in overnight Richland County crash
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH)-- According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, one person has died after being ejected from an SUV early Sunday morning.
Around 2:30 a.m. the driver of a 2001 Chevy Tahoe was traveling westbound on Cabin Creek Road near Congress Road. The driver ran off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected then ran off the left side of the roadway ejecting the driver from the vehicle.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Richland Couty Coroner later identified the driver as 39-year-old Mathew R. Butler of Hopkins.
An autopsy indicated that Butler's cause of death was due to blunt head and neck trauma.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate this incident.
